From the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention:
Join Us in the Fight Against Suicide
Out of the Darkness Community Walk
Saturday, October 11, 2025 | 6:00 PM | Roxana High School Charles Raich Field
Dear Community Members,
Suicide is now the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10–24 in the United States. Every day,
countless young people struggle silently with mental health challenges — in our homes, our schools, and our communities. The impact is profound, touching students, families, teachers, and entire school districts. But with awareness, compassion, and action, we can work together to make a difference.
We invite you to take part in the Out of the Darkness Community Walk – Madison County, hosted at Roxana High School on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 6:00 PM. These walks are journeys of remembrance, hope, and support. By participating, you help raise awareness and vital funds to support suicide prevention efforts.
We especially encourage school districts, student groups, and faculty teams to participate in a show of solidarity. Creating a team is a powerful way for schools to walk together, support one another, and send a message of hope and unity to every young person who may be struggling.
Special Challenge for Athletic Teams, Coaches, and Sports Clubs:
We would like to have representatives from all Madison County School Districts to show their support by assembling groups and walking together in their school spirit wear. Let’s show that strength isn’t just physical — it is also in standing up for one another, promoting mental wellness, and creating a culture where no one struggles alone.
Why Walk?
● To honor a loved one lost to suicide
● To show support for those struggling with mental health
● To connect with others and share hope
● To promote awareness and prevention in your local community
● To help fund research and educational programs that make a real difference
