Roxana High School Earns Prestigious National [Gold] Council of Excellence Award
Roxana, Illinois – For its exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that improve the school and community, the Roxana Senior High School student council has been recognized as a 2025 National Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). The NASC program is supported by its parent organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
The RHS Student Council has sponsored several initiatives that have had a profound impact on the local community and have promoted school spirit at Roxana High School:
Community Children’s Christmas - spreading Christmas cheer to those in need
Partnering with Impact to sponsor a school-wide Blood Drive
Service projects that support Relay for Life
Homecoming Week festivities and other Spirit Weeks throughout the school year!
“The student council at Roxana High School just pulled off something extraordinary,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.”

“Our Student Council’s contributions and positive impact on our school’s culture, local families, and the surrounding region have been immeasurable. Our student council is composed of amazing student leaders including our dedicated executive officers and approximately 50 (+) at large members.

We have two exceptional co-sponsors who collaborate with our students in Mrs. Suze Gibson and Mrs. Mamie Lish-Vazquez. Their hard work, passion, and dedication to our students have had a profound impact on Roxana High School. Their guidance has truly made a difference, and I am incredibly proud of their efforts.”
A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National Council of Excellence Award. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community.
