Lots of personal records were set Saturday at the IESA Track and Field Sectional in Virdan. 11 RJHS students qualified for state in 7 events and will be representing Roxana this Friday and Saturday in East Peoria. The 8th grade girls took 3rd place overall. Sectional champions include Jamir Cornell in the high jump, Zane Losch in the discus, Gianna Stassi in the 1600, the 8th grade boys 4x200 relay team of Leyton Smay, Easton Johnston, Nick Miles, and Will Stevens. And finally, Elizabeth Clouse once again in the hurdles, making her a 3 year sectional champion and state qualifier in the same event. Other state qualifiers include the 8th grade boys 4x400 team of Cornell, Johnston, Stevens, and Mason Orick. Leah Newton and Jaylin Roach qualified in the High Jump and Cornell in the 100. Jamir Cornell qualified for state in every event he was entered in, a RJHS record. And, the 8th grade boys 4x200 team and the 8th grade boys 4x400 team broke school records as well. The 8th grade girls 4x400 team of Lilyanna Cleaves, Bailey Schallenberg-Decker, Stassi, and Clouse fell just short of state qualifying, but they did break a 1981 school record by 4 seconds! Lunch detentions will be in Ms. Schaab’s room this week for any student given a lunch detention.
