Today in Mr. Son’s 6th Grade Math Class
Students put their hard work to the test — literally — by testing their toothpick bridges! 🪵✨
This nine-week project connected directly to the 6th grade ratio standards (6.RP.1–4) as students explored unit rate, unit conversion, and equivalent ratios in a hands-on way. The activity also encouraged students to practice key Standards for Mathematical Practice:
MP1 — Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
MP2 — Reason abstractly and quantitatively
MP5 — Use appropriate tools strategically
MP6 — Attend to precision
Along the way, students built important real-world skills like time management, collaboration, and public speaking as they planned, built, and presented their bridges.
One highlight of the day — a bridge that held an incredible 87.1 pounds before breaking! 💪🏗️
It was an exciting day of learning, problem-solving, and celebrating creativity in math. Great job, young engineers! 👏💡🔧

Good morning, parents/guardians.
As we did last year, we want to invite you to get involved in our school for the 2025-26 school year as a member of our Parent Advisory Committee. We can always use help planning and chaperoning events like our fall and spring dances, some of our student appreciation days, as well as some other events. You may be involved as much or as little as you want, so don't be concerned about the time commitment.
Please respond to the email address below with your name and how you would like to be involved.
katie.todd@rcusd.org.
We look forward to another year of great community involvement at RJHS!
